Welcome to the Art and Design page!
At Northcote Primary, we believe that Art and Design lessons can provide children with opportunities to develop imagination and creative thinking.
On this page, you will find a breakdown of the topics we cover in Art throughout the school year, a few examples of the fantastic Art and Design lessons across the school and internet links that you might find useful at home.
If you have any questions about Art and Design, then ask your class teacher or see Mrs Dwyer (the Art and Design coordinator).
In Autumn 2017 we worked together as a whole school to create mosaic art work in the style of Henri Matisse. Each phase worked on re-creating the following pieces;
EYFS 'The Snail' (assisted by our Northcote Art Ambassadors)
KS1 'The Fall of Icarus'
KS2 'Sorrow of the King'
In a bid to allow our children more creativity within the Arts, we arranged a ‘Free Art’ session throughout the school. We provided each key stage with a stimulus about contemporary/classical dance and a range of resources, allowing them to come up with their own representations of the piece.
UKS2 - Ghost Dance by Christopher Bruce (about the Chilean War)
LKS2 – ‘Still Life’ at The Penguin Café (message about endangered species)
KS1 - The Nutcracker 'Battle of the Rat King' (telling a fictional story through dance)
EYFS – Funny Bones & Spooky Music (linked to Halloween)
